*Jumps up and down*

Do you know what this means!?

Me. Totally me.

Christmas! I woke up this morning in a Christmassy mood…
wait.
No. I’m lying. I woke up too early and was super tired and did not want to get out of bed.
What I really mean is, “after drinking my first <del>five</del> cup of coffee for the day, I was in SUCH a Christmassy mood.

It doesn’t help that Pinterest is all, “LOOK AT ALL THIS DIY CHRISTMAS STUFF YOU COULD MAKE!”

Speaking of Pinterest, follow me. Also speaking of Pinterest, I’ve been a huge “I’ll pin this and make it someday” kind of pinner. But ah-ha! Today. For the very first time. I did something that I pinned.

*Crowd cheers*

Yeah. So. Back to that.

A couple months back, I picked up an old picture frame from Goodwill. (Of course, with the intentions of doing something I had pinned.)

I even made this picture super huge for you so you could see the details and my wonderful iPhone photography.
Seriously though, forgive me that all the pictures in this post are from my phone.
Boo.

The frame has just been chilling around the house. Sometimes on the floor, sometimes on the printer, and most recently, tucked away under the desk. I don’t know what got into me at 7 in the morning, but I was like DUDE. I’MMA BREAK OUT THE SAND PAPER AND GO AT THIS BITCH.

Literally.

And I made it into something pretty.

Would you like to know how I did it? I’m sure you could figure it out because it is so ridiculously simple it makes me want to cry, BUT. I will tell you anyway.

Step 1: Buy ugly frame. (Mine was 99 cents.)
Step 2: Let ugly frame sit around your house for a while. (It needs to rest and be ugly.)
Step 3: Sand ugly frame. (I had some sandpaper laying around, so this was free…kinda.)
Step 4: Spray paint ugly frame a pretty color. (I chose white. My spray paint was just sitting around too but the price sticker says $3.97.)
Step 5: Put something pretty in your pretty frame (I chose Christmas Subway Art from this blog. They suggest printing it larger and through a store, but I did it at home and placed it over the ugly picture in the pretty frame. So that was pretty much free too.)

AND VIOLA! YOU HAVE JUST MADE PRETTY!

Are you doing DIY Christmas decorations this year? I am. Save some mooooolaaaaaahhhh! Plus it’s fun and I like to make things pretty, don’t you? Stay tuned for more pretty Christmas things! I’ll also post a picture of the pretty frame in it’s pretty location once there are more pretty things.

MWAH. <3

Sometimes, I disappear.

PeasAndWhos?

I really do have all the best intentions of writing posts and keeping up with things, but other fluff gets in the way.

What kind of fluff?

This week I have been dealing with literal fluff (aka: poly-fil). I’ve been making a puff quilt for my daughter’s nursery which I am SUPEROMGFREAKINGEXCITED about. Would you like to see a sneaky peaky? Ohhhhkaaayyyy. Since you’re just SO convincing.

3 hours of fabric shopping with a friend and we finally
came up with these! Adorable, eh?

It’s been a wee bit o work but it’s going to be so amazing when it’s done. And yes, the crib skirt, sheets, pillows, bumpers, changing table cover, curtains, and possibly even a cover for the glider-rocker-thinger-ma-bobber. All handmade, all awesome.

I’m pretty convinced that I nest in the form of making nursery items. Because damn, am I determined to do this stuff and finish it! For those of you who know me, I’m the type of crafter that likes to start a project, work on it for a little while, then once it gets repetitive/boring/frustrating I move onto a new project. I am SO bad about doing that and I hatehatehate it. But really, I can’t help it if I get bored!

I’ve also been working on my homemade baby shower invites. Pain in the ass? Yes. Ho-ly crap why did I decide to do them by hand?! There are roughly 60 invites.

And they still aren’t done.

*This is the part of the blog post where scary music plays and my readers gasp*

I know. I need to get on it but finding a location that is cheap? Really hard. And super not fun.

Would you like a sneaky peaky of those? Alright, alright, ALRIGHT already. You don’t have to beg. Geesh.

Pretty pink paper.

Unfortunately that’s the best peek you’re going to get of the invites because I can’t give too much away before people actually receive them, yahknow?

Want more teasers? You and your demands!

Any guesses as to what these are? Heeheehee.

Mmkay. That’s enough for today. If you like my Facebook page, you’ve probably already seen some of these. If you don’t? You should! I’ll be posting more things and of course you want to stay updated…right? Right.

So now? Now I leave you with a picture of my ginormous, exploding belly…

30 weeks 3 days. My little body is not built for such a huge belly!
It’s taking over! Ahhh!

Since we got our new dog, Lola*, my mom had this great idea that I could be Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz for Halloween. Lola will be my Toto and maybe I’ll even carry her around in a picnic basket (depending on how cooperative she is). ANYWAY! So I went on some Halloween costume websites to browse the selection and found a few I really liked. (Who knew there were so many styles of Dorothy costumes?) Then I decide to look at shoes because, um, duhhhh. What’s a Dorothy without her ruby red slippers? Browsing around, lots of ruby, lots of sparkles, then….oh. OH.

“FIFTY DOLLARS FOR A PAIR OF DOROTHY SLIPPERS?”

Ouch. That hurts. That’s about as much as the dress alone! So I start brainstorming and the crafty side of me started to creep out. What was stopping me from making these shoes on my own? I’ll tell you what, nothing. Nothing was. So here we go:

Here I have a nice little step-by-step diagram for you to follow along with! Now you can see what truly works for me.

Step 1: Buy shoes from local thrift shop for $10. Take them home and place them on your bed.
Step 2: While still on bed, start to cover shoes with glitter glue. Get it all over your index finger. (See lower right corner for example of how index finger should look.)
Step 3: Put some monkey pajama pants on and continue to make a gooey mess of the shoes. (See lower left corner for monkeys. Cute, comfy monkeys.)
Step 4: After finishing the first layer, decide that letting them dry on your bed overnight is not such a great idea and relocate them to the table.
Step 5: Add another coat of glitter glue while shoes are still on table.
Step 6: Add one last coat (or more if you desire) and TAH-DAH!!! You’ve got yourself a mighty fine lookin’ pair o’ Dorothy shoes!

This is the glitter glue I used. It’s around $3 a bottle at WalMart. And the best part?
It only took one bottle to give both shoes three layers!

So there you have it, folks. In the end I spent $10 on shoes and $3 on glitter. $13 for a pair of Dorothy slippers? It DEFINITELY works for me and hopefully it works for you! (Monkey pants optional…I guess.)

Head on over to We Are THAT Family for more WFMW ideas!

*I promise, promise, PROMISE a post about Lola is coming soon. She’s an adorable Yorkie that’s about four months old and came with a bonus when we got her….pneumonia! Tell-all coming soon to a computer screen near you.

After moving into my new apartment this month, it was time for some…change. I wanted a new sofa. Expensive? Yes. Unrealistic? Not at all. The current couch we have is a tad on the rugged side. We got it a year ago from Goodwill. Decent condition, just…used. It was a little ripped up and worn in areas. Not a big deal, but in our new place I wanted our things to look new too. So, off I went to Target to buy a King size sheet set for $19.99. We had some pins lying around and I used them to attach the King sheet to the couch. The pillowcases I used to cover two of the cushions, and for the third I used the fitted sheet and just cut it. Simple and VERY cheap!

Lately I’ve been Ms. CraftyMcGee over here! I’m always finding new and unique projects to try out. I found these duct tape shoes I made about a year ago. Duct tape, craft foam, cardboard, and a little creativity! BOOM, you’ve got shoes!

They aren’t very durable but they are comfy. It’s also fun to say, “HEY LOOK! I made these shoes myself out of duct tape!”

Along with the nifty duct tape shoes, I found an insane number of pens, pencils, markers, and crayons. I noticed some were Harry Potter Scented Markers which would mean they were probably from 6th grade. So what did that mean? MARKER TESTING TIME! I was lacking ideas of crafts to start and figured coloring would be a great way to begin my crafting.

It was fun, and a majority of those 6th grade markers do, in fact, work.

Since then I’ve been trying chain maille, homemade cheese fondue, duct tape flower bouquets , making my own jewelry, and these will someday turn into a really cool basket made of newspaper. (Click here for instructions on how to do it yourself!)

Stay tuned for more creative craftiness from yours truly!
